Terms of Service
Last updated: 28.10.2026
These terms apply to the Margin Notes hosting service. During the pilot, the pilot terms agreed with you also apply.
1. Who we are
The service is provided by Marginnotes, email hello@marginnotes.me (“we”).
2. The service
We host Ghost sites on servers we manage, including backups, HTTPS and email delivery for the site’s login and newsletters. Ghost is open-source software by Ghost Foundation; Margin Notes is not affiliated with Ghost Foundation.
3. Your account
You must be able to enter this agreement for yourself or your organisation. Keep your login details secret and tell us if you think they have been misused. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
4. Your content
You own your content, including posts, images and your member list. You give us permission to store, copy, back up and transmit it only as needed to run the service for you. You are responsible for your content and for having the right to publish it. We do not review content before it is published.
5. What is not allowed
Illegal content; malware, phishing or scams; content that infringes others’ rights; harassment or hate speech; sending email to people who did not agree to receive it; and using the service in a way that harms other customers or the servers. Newsletter email is sent through Mailgun, and Mailgun’s rules apply too.
6. Reporting content
To report content on a site we host, write to hello@marginnotes.me. We review reports, may remove or disable content or a site that breaks these terms or the law, and tell the site owner why unless the law stops us.
7. Fees and payment
After the pilot, the price is 9.49 EUR a month, plus applicable VAT, billed automatically on a recurring monthly basis. Payments are processed securely via Stripe. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period. We provide a full refund if you cancel within 14 days of your initial payment. We will notify you at least 14 days before any price change takes effect.
8. Availability, backups and support
We work to keep your site online but do not promise it will always be available we aim for 99.9% uptime. We may do maintenance and tell you in advance where we can. We back up your site nightly and copy the backups to a second location, but you should also keep your own copy of anything important. Support is by email.
9. Third-party services
The service uses other providers, such as email delivery. If you connect your own accounts (for example your Mailgun or Stripe account), their terms apply and you are responsible for those accounts.
10. Suspension and ending the agreement
We may suspend a site that breaks these terms, puts others at risk, or is unpaid after notice, and we will contact you first unless there is an urgent risk. Either of us can end the agreement at any time. After it ends, you can ask for an export of your content for 30 days. We then delete your site; a final backup is kept for 30 days and then deleted.
11. Personal data
We handle personal data as described in the Privacy Policy and the Data Processing Terms, which are part of this agreement.
12. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, loss of profits, or data loss. Our total liability for any claim arising under these terms is limited to the amount paid by you to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. We tell you at least 14 days before a change that affects you, and you can end the agreement if you do not accept it.
